Progression.

…from the last update of the status of an young money intern, as hip hop lyricist Drake would say, I have learned so much about my field and how we operate throughout the globe through communication via fashion. A new mindset and self realization has been found within myself the past few weeks with so much responsibility placed into my lap and learning not to have excuses has been an rewarding learning experience. I decided to post a few photos from my iPhone again of a few looks of daily Prêt-à-Porter.

Until next time.

Olivia Anthony

As the frequent BlaqueBook viewers know that Olivia Anthony and her brand has a home at www.theblaquebook.com.

I would like to introduce one of her newest endeavors in the industry which is her shirt line, but first I’ll give you some background information on her and her brand.

Olivia Anthony is not only a brand, its a lifestyle. Fusing her love for fashion and performing arts, she brings you a plethora of styles, from Gothic goddess to elegant evolutions. Giving you nothing but eye candy whenever she’s behind the scenes of any dressing room. She has also corresponded with BET for the 2011 Rip the Runway as well.

She has recently launched her very own line of apparel from the Olivia Anthony brand, which currently consists of shirts (in a variety of styles) and jackets. Kyle Editor

I would like to present to some and introduce to others Kyle Anderson, current Accessories Director for Marie Claire Magazine USA.

I had the pleasure of meeting Kyle Anderson this summer during my internship at Marie Claire USA in New York City, NY. I must say that he completely motivated me that a man can completely saturate the fashion industry in every aspect. Formally of ELLE Magazine as the Senior Accessories Director, Kyle continues to create timeless editorials for all fashion lovers to admire worldwide.

In addition to the great opportunity of meeting and working in the presence of Kyle, I had a hand in the Miley Cyrus Cover for the September Issue of Marie Claire Magazine. It is completely rewarding seeing a photo in a magazine that you helped prepare. Only the beginning of this aspect.

...& Of course, Kyle styled the Accessories perfectly.

Below is a small depiction of Kyle's work.

Smith&Brandon

Like any other day on instagram, I was perusing my timeline and ran across a photo of a model in garments that really caught my eye because of the quality, creativity, and sophistication of the look.  I had to get more information from its curator.

“From the birth of Smith&Brand, the brand as sold out of stock within the first week of the collection release day. But, the defining moment was the day that the brand first brought the varsity jacket to its target. How fast those jackets sold out was overwhelming. We sold 20 pieces in one hour.”

The brand Smith&Brandon was created in the summer of 2009, when Drake Smith had a vision to create something that he could offer the world, while inspiring the kids in his area of living.

“Everyone has a dream, right?”

He wanted to show that it is possible to follow your dreams and live through those dreams. Before the brand came up as an idea for that “Something”, Drake found himself walking into different department stores mesmerized with different articles of clothing always stating,

“I would have done it like this.”

This statement helped craft the high end street wear brand known today as,

Smith&Brandon

Smith&Brandon is a lifestyle brand that offers high end street wear garments and accessories to every demographic and not one particular race. The S&B brand was birthed upon the love of fashion and the ambition to present the world with innovative style.

S&B’s mission and goal is to provide consumers with classic yet innovative designs combined with high quality apparel that portrays not only fashion, but the lifestyle of Smith&Brandon.

Corrupt Originality

Corrupt Originality

Corrupt Originality is a lifestyle-clothing brand that makes clothes for all ages and sizes. Founded in July of 2010, Corrupt Originality makes clothes to reach out to others to find their own form of “originality.” Be yourself. Don’t let others stop you from being your own person. Our goal is to help bring people closer to each other, while delivering a product that many enjoy wearing.

Corrupt Originality was founded July 22, 2010, by Blake Van Putten, a Freshman at Howard University. Corrupt Originality is not a huge company run by hundreds, of people, but is a growing independent business, run by the one and only Blake. Many people have offered to team up to help run the company because of its great success, but the whole movement wouldn’t be the same if run by others. In the future, people will be allowed to team up for designs and collaborations, but for now, the company itself is independently run.

What age group are you targeting for your company?

All ages. There have been times where kids have requested specific designs and we have fulfilled the request. There are also instances where parents also want to wear some of my designs. Corrupt Originality does not discriminate.

How is your company more personalized than any other line?

Well, usually with every print, companies only supply S-XL. There are people that really enjoy wearing modern lifestyle brands, but are not in these size categories. Yes we have printed 2XS as well as sizes as big as 4XL!

A Day in The Life of …

I decided to give the viewers into my life on a daily basis, instead of the prepared post that I usually do. My day consists of so much, one would be surprised that I could foster the energy to keep up with everything but that’s what the city requires! & that’s what I will give. So its [ n o t h i n g ] .

a friend’s birthday dinner.

[ 230 5th Ave RoofTop ].

The University of Alabama New York City Alumni Chapter held a networking event for all the interns and all other unconnected Alumni in the city. I enjoyed it for a happy hour event. Food, fun, and a few drinks always closes a good day in the best way.

[ V i b e Magazine Listening Party ]

…the same day/evening as the networking happy hour event. I decided to tip into the Vibe Listening Party in the Meatpacking District of NYC. It was a pretty crowd full of fashion hipsters, bloggers, and artist. Plus, I chatted up Solange Knowles. I didnt get a photo unfortunately, it was so much going on but I had to speak with her being that she is a KNOWLES

[ a regular day in the C i t y ] .

…a regular cool outfit in the city heat. The heat index is something that i definitely have to get use too because the southern heat doesn’t beam off of cement pathways.

NMS Conference Schedule

NMS NY Festival Schedule

So I tipped into the red carpet smelling like Platinum Chanel and wearing extremely loud taylored Chuck Taylors, and met several photographers, music industry savvy individuals, and upcoming new artist. I must say that I enjoyed covering the red carpet for the opening night of this great festival. Many thanks to Hollis at WE + PR.

Enjoy the photos.

More information about the seminar to come.
