Smith&Brandon

Like any other day on instagram, I was perusing my timeline and ran across a photo of a model in garments that really caught my eye because of the quality, creativity, and sophistication of the look.  I had to get more information from its curator.

“From the birth of Smith&Brand, the brand as sold out of stock within the first week of the collection release day. But, the defining moment was the day that the brand first brought the varsity jacket to its target. How fast those jackets sold out was overwhelming. We sold 20 pieces in one hour.”

The brand Smith&Brandon was created in the summer of 2009, when Drake Smith had a vision to create something that he could offer the world, while inspiring the kids in his area of living.

“Everyone has a dream, right?”

He wanted to show that it is possible to follow your dreams and live through those dreams. Before the brand came up as an idea for that “Something”, Drake found himself walking into different department stores mesmerized with different articles of clothing always stating,

“I would have done it like this.”

This statement helped craft the high end street wear brand known today as,

Smith&Brandon

Smith&Brandon is a lifestyle brand that offers high end street wear garments and accessories to every demographic and not one particular race. The S&B brand was birthed upon the love of fashion and the ambition to present the world with innovative style.

S&B’s mission and goal is to provide consumers with classic yet innovative designs combined with high quality apparel that portrays not only fashion, but the lifestyle of Smith&Brandon.

Suburban Boys.

TheBlaqueBook’s intern Klah contacted me today about an email with a lookbook attached like any other normal brand feature. I asked him to send me the photos to my iPhone; as I gazed at the messages filled with breathtaking menswear. I immediately replied and told Klah to forward me the email so I can get started with this feature. I knew from the photos that this was European.

All of this to say, that I would like to present to some and introduce to others a graduate collection of Sheffield Hallam University created by Benjamin Bertram entitled “Suburban Boys”. Benjamin recently won the Brightest Spark from the Creative Spark exhibition awarded by Rita Britton of Pollyana. His collection is now set to be shown in the Brightest Spark exhibition, held in Sheffield in October of this year.

A little background on the collection:
The collection is based around the idea of disenfranchised youth in Britain and how in times of financial hardship, great creativity is born. Influences for the design work were taken from Suburban Subcultures and Architecture as well as the boy himself; a street lad with a cheeky wink. The collection features menswear staples but with an urban Twist, featuring no colour as I believe colour can distract from form; the garments themselves are intricate in cut. An accent of Gold was used referencing back to “Bling” in Rap culture, something that has also been discussed within politics after the riots in London.

Benjamin’s Design Philosophy: My design Philosophy:

BENJAMIN BERTRAM BELIEVES THAT NO MATTER

WHO YOU ARE, OR WHERE YOU COME FROM, THE

CLOTHES YOU CHOOSE TO WEAR ARE YOUR OWN

PERSONAL STATEMENT. AESTHETICS ARE AS SIGNIFICANT

AS FUNCTION, BUT IT IS EQUALLY AS IMPORTANT THAT

OUR STYLE CHANGES AND EVOLVES AS WE DO, AND

THAT OUR CLOTHES SAY SOMETHING ABOUT WHO WE

ARE AT A PARTICULAR MOMENT IN TIME.

I must say that I was elated to have been offered to present this collection to TheBlaqueBook viewers, it is definitely stuff fly people like.

Corrupt Originality

Corrupt Originality

Corrupt Originality is a lifestyle-clothing brand that makes clothes for all ages and sizes. Founded in July of 2010, Corrupt Originality makes clothes to reach out to others to find their own form of “originality.” Be yourself. Don’t let others stop you from being your own person. Our goal is to help bring people closer to each other, while delivering a product that many enjoy wearing.

Corrupt Originality was founded July 22, 2010, by Blake Van Putten, a Freshman at Howard University. Corrupt Originality is not a huge company run by hundreds, of people, but is a growing independent business, run by the one and only Blake. Many people have offered to team up to help run the company because of its great success, but the whole movement wouldn’t be the same if run by others. In the future, people will be allowed to team up for designs and collaborations, but for now, the company itself is independently run.

What age group are you targeting for your company?

All ages. There have been times where kids have requested specific designs and we have fulfilled the request. There are also instances where parents also want to wear some of my designs. Corrupt Originality does not discriminate.

How is your company more personalized than any other line?

Well, usually with every print, companies only supply S-XL. There are people that really enjoy wearing modern lifestyle brands, but are not in these size categories. Yes we have printed 2XS as well as sizes as big as 4XL!

10/10 (ten out of ten) “Only Young Once!” Collection

10/10 is a menswear brand that focuses on presenting modern styles with uniquely intricate detailing like none other. Its trans-seasonal pieces draw inspiration from many spectrums from geometry to Gundam. 10/10 combines traditional tailoring and street wear with the avant-garde. The unique garments are a staple for any wardrobe that wishes to be awakened.
“Only Young Once!” stemmed from the idea of the fearlessness in youth, through clothing. A young spirit that wishes to express itself loudly and with its own voice. The pieces themselves are created with precision cutting and colour-blocking that continue to represent the foundations of the brand.
I absolutely love this collection in this entirety. There is nothing more that can be said.

[B.] x [Olivia Anthony]

The weekend started relatively slow and perfect, I was off three days this week for various reasons. I enjoyed these days to the fullest, hitting the city streets to enjoy things that the city offer such as a diner on the east side that is famous for its french toast and the famous meatpacking district filled with high end designers and brands.

… i have had one of the best weekends, I have had in a while here. One of my closet friends Jessica “OLIVIA” Anthony came up from the south to see me in New York City. She is also a Wardrobe Stylist with her brand by the name of “Olivia Anthony”She is honestly like my little sister and I had the pleasant surprise of my close friend Danielle driving down from Connecticut as well.  So I showed her around the city, we partied, we stormed the city streets, and I was so sad when she left but she had duties to tend too in the south.

Until next time.

A deeper look.

Well viewers, I decided to clean out my iPhone and post a few cool photos from my daily intern life at Marie Claire and other photographs from places I have dinned and other things I think you would like to see. I’ll explain as I go.

First Day at Marie Claire.

Somewhere around the second week, I think. YSL flat.

Two Kanye West bookbags. I was in awe of course. Some friends I made on 5th Ave. Love these two. PR Fashion persons as well. Going to get coffee one morning from Starbucks around the corner from the Hearst Tower. Typical. Ha. Eugena from ANTM in Santos together. She called me “cute”. I digged it. Ha. So I am always trying on sunglasses in the closet just because I can’t help myself. An Asian spot that I absolutely loved. My homie Alexey. His blog is TheBeauNextDoor.com.

Central Park.

My homie’s Celine. Yeah she doing it. Slight Hermes work on my off day. Balmain jacket. Word to Oliver! This was actually today. It was heat appropriate but I think it was still stylish at the same time.

Hope you enjoyed, more to come.
